Patient Education
Many education programs are available. These may be shown to you at your bedside or in a group setting. A variety of printed educational materials is also available. Ask your nurse for information.
Safety Practices
To help us maintain a safe environment, please use the nurse call button when you need assistance. If your doctor allows, you may get out of bed. Placing your bed in its lowest position will permit you to get in and out easily and prevent accidents. Wearing slippers or shoes may also help your safety. Please call the nurse if you need assistance with your activity.
Hospitals are required to carry out routine fire and disaster drills. These mock drills may involve various alarms, automatic door closures and response procedures practiced for your safety. In the unlikely event of a real emergency, our staff will instruct and assist you.

Telephones
Telephones are available in most rooms and are conveniently located on your bedside stand. Local calls are free. Just dial 9, wait for the tone, then dial the number.
You may place long distance callsby dialing "O" and asking the operator for assistance. Long distance calls may be made collect, billed to your home or credit card. The hospital utilizes AT&T for its long distance services.
A directory of hospital extensions is located in the back of this booklet. When calling these from your room, dial only the last four digits.
Calls may be placed into most patient rooms from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. by dialing 234-0123. Between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. callers will be connected with your nursing unit. If callers need to know your room number, they should ask for the switchboard.
