Medications
Most of the time, the hospital will provide the medication your doctor prescribes for you during your hospital stay In some instances we may ask you to provide your home medicine. If you bring medicine from home, please give it to your nurse who will make sure you are getting the appropriate medication while you are hospitalized.
You can assist us to safely manage your medication regime by:
- Giving the nurse a complete, accurate list of ALL medications you take at home.
- Showing the nurse your ID bracelet each time you take medication.
- Making sure you are given the same medicine each time. If not, ask why.
- Telling the nurse if you've had a bad reaction to any medicine in the past.
Pastoral Care
The hospital chaplains are interested in your total well-being and will assist you in any way they can. Please contact the chaplains by calling the Pastoral Care Office at 234-8205 or by having your nurse contact the hospital operator.
The Chapel is located on the main floor of the West Building. You are welcome to visit for prayer and reflection at any time. Protestant and Catholic services are held in the Chapel each Sunday. The time of the service may vary. Please check with the hospital telephone operators to check the time of service.
Pain Control
People used to think that if you were sick enough to be in the hospital, you must also have to suffer with pain. It was something that they 'just had to put up with'. But with current treatments, that is no longer true. We have a commitment to manage pain by appropriate use of available therapies and resources. We recognize that pain and its management is a very personal experience and know that each patient may react differently to pain and the treatments given. Our goal at OVMC is to help you be as comfortable as possible and that you will be satisfied with the management of pain while you are here. You are key in helping us to design a pain management program that works to give you the best pain control. You can help by playing an active role in your pain management by telling us about your level of pain (on a scale of 0 being no pain and 10 being the worst pain ever) and by helping to choose ways to relieve that pain. Please ask the staff any time you have questions about pain management concerns.
