Organ & Tissue Donation
OVMC participates in the process of organ and tissue donation through the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE). Organ and tissue donation can give the gift of life to the more than 50,000 people who are waiting for organ or tissue transplants. On average, one donor can give the gift of life to more than 200 people depending on what is donated and how it is used. If you are interested in more information, ask your nurse or call 1-800-DONORS-7 (1-800-366-6777).
Billing
The best time to make financial arrangements for your hospital stay is before you are admitted. Our financial counseling office can give valuable assistance concerning financial problems that may arise as a result of your hospital stay.
The following information is to be furnished prior to, at the time of, or within 24 hours after admission:
- Social Security Number
- Identification card for Medicare, Blue Cross, United Mine Workers, Welfare Fund and/or any other health care insurances
- Name and numbers of individual insurance carriers
Hospital insurance benefits are verified by Patient Accounts with your insurance carrier or agency. The balance, in excess of the verified, estimated, or assigned benefits from your insurance carrier, is due at the time of discharge unless prior arrangements have been made.
Our Financial Counselor will help you collect payment from up to two health insurance companies; however, you are responsible for any outstanding payment of your account not reimbursed by your insurance company.
Patients who do not have insurance coverage are urged to consult with the Financial Counseling Office at 234-8535 as soon after admission as possible. This action will facilitate the discharge procedure by allowing arrangements to be made before discharge from the hospital.
Your hospital bill does NOT include:
- Physician's Fees
- Emergency Room Physician's fees
- Anesthesiology fees
- Radiology fees
To prevent denial of payment, many insurances require that the patient/family call for authorization before going to the hospital for services or within 24 hours of services. Please check your insurance card or with your insurance carrier for this important information.
For your convenience the Business Office is open for questions weekdays 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please call 234-8128.
